Clanopedia separates private family-tree information from public clan, surname and cultural information. This page explains how to protect that boundary.

Be careful with living people
- Do not add sensitive details about living people unless you have consent or another respectful basis.
- Avoid storing or publishing ID numbers, addresses, medical details, financial details, private disputes or phone numbers.
- Use display names if you do not want to store a full name.
ID numbers and personal family data
You do not need an ID number to create an account, build a family tree, search public records or make basic heritage contributions.
Clanopedia does not sell your personal family data.
Clanopedia does not share your personal family data with partners without a lawful basis, clear purpose and appropriate consent or safeguards.
Public records are separate
Public clan, surname, praise-name, source and history records are separate from private family-tree records. You control what you submit publicly through contribution and correction flows, and those submissions are reviewed before publication.
Good privacy habits
- Mark uncertain family details clearly in your own notes.
- Keep private family stories private unless relatives have agreed they can be shared.
- Use public contribution flows for cultural or source-supported knowledge that is appropriate for review.
- Use correction flows when a public record needs respectful improvement.
